Salem’s work the last three years is a visual diary of a life lived under siege. Through expressive, emotionally charged compositions, he documents not only the trauma of occupation, but also the resilience, memory, and quiet moments of humanity that persist amid devastation. His paintings and drawings serve as a message to the world—an invitation to witness, reflect, and remember.

He uses available materials like UNRWA school notebooks, natural dyes, tea, and hibiscus in wartime creations.

He was detained temporarily during the January 2024 military incursions; his work after that reflects personal grief and resilience.

Sohail Salem is born in Gaza, 1974. He is Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Al-Aqsa University, Gaza City, 1999. Co‑founder of Eltiqa Group for Contemporary Art, a key Gaza arts platform. Worked as art instructor at Al-Aqsa University and supervised contemporary arts programs.

Residens in Darat Al Funun, Amman (2001, 2003), Arts Place de l’Ile, Geneva (2005) and Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2010). Solo shows across Gaza, Ramallah, Amman & France since 2003. Several group exhibitions.
